Southern Lake District Discovery Tour

Fully Booked

I'm really excited to be returning to the Lake District for the first time in three years to run two Discovery Tours.  This area completely takes my breath away, and is without exception my favourite part of the UK for photography.  With such a large area to explore, I've decided a different approach for my 2022 tours.  I will be running two Discovery Tours, this one based in the south of the National Park, followed by a second tour based towards the north.  This will cut down on our travel time, and allow us to better explore the beautiful landscapes of both areas.  The tour dates have been arranged so that, should you wish to indulge yourself in an extensive Lake District photographic experience, you could decide to book both trips.

For this southern Lakes Discovery Tour, we will be venturing to many of my favourite lakeside locations, from Blea Tarn, Grasmere and Rydal Water, as well as gaining elevation to shoot mountain areas such as Side Pike and Loughrigg Tarn.  From our base in Skelwith Bridge the locations are all fairly close, with typical driving times of around 15-20 minutes between destinations.

Buiding on the experience of previous Discovery Tours, the format for this workshop has been refined to a 3 night stay, with photography spread out over 4 days.  After checking in to your hotel room, we will begin our tour on Day 1 with a sunset shoot.  For the next two days, we will be photographing locations throughout the day, from sunrise to sunset, returning to the hotel for breakfast and some rest time in the morning.  Then on Day 4, we will finish the tour after breakfast, following a dawn shoot.  With the tour spanning three sunrises and three sunsets, this gives us the opportunity to photograph the Lake District's fabulous locations during their best moments.

With a maximum group number of only four participants, our chosen locations will be uncrowded ensuring everybody has access to find their own unique viewpoints.  Adam will encourage you to fully explore each location to find your own viewpoints and compositions, while helping you capture beautiful landscape photographs.

Our tours are aimed at everybody, from beginners looking for advice and encouragement through to experienced photographers wishing only to be guided to locations.  With such a small group, you can be assured of Adam’s attention, support and feedback throughout each location we visit.

Please note: This tour has been classified as strenous.  While the majority of locations can be easily reached, there may be some that require uphill walks of up to 45 minutes.

Accommodation

Our base for this workshop will be the Skelwith Bridge Hotel.  Just down the road from Ambleside, the Skelwith Bridge Hotel escapes the hustle and bustle of the nearby tourist town for a more tranquil experience.  The hotel is the ideal base for exploring the best of the Lakes, and is just minutes from many of it's photographic highlights, including the Langdale Valley, the River Brathay and Loughrigg Tarn.

You will enjoy single occupancy of a modern, double room, complete with en suite facilities.  For more information on the hotel, please visit their website here.

What to Bring

To enable you to get the most out of the workshop please bring the following camera gear:

  • DSLR, lenses and memory cards
  • Spare batteries (charged up!)
  • Tripod
  • Filters (a set of Kase filters will be available for you to use throughout the workshop should you require them)
