A 1-2-1 tuition day can be tailored to suit your needs and timescales. Throughout the day Adam will be at hand to provide you with encouragement, instruction and feedback to help improve your landscape photography. Tuition is usually carried out entirely on Dartmoor, where you will be guided to windswept tors on high moorland outcrops, rocky woodland rivers and beautiful rolling countryside. Living in Devon on the edge of Dartmoor, Adam’s knowledge of the national park is exceptional.
Alternatively, if you prefer to shoot coastal scenes Adam can put together an itinerary based on the spectacular north coast of Cornwall and Devon. 1-2-1 days can also be arranged further afield but would incur an additional fee to cover Adam's travel and accommodation expenses; if you would like to arrange a 1-2-1 in a location of your choice please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your requirements.
The duration of a tuition day will be at least 9 hours (and often more), in which you will be developing your photographic skills with Adam’s support and guidance in a variety of inspirational natural settings. During a typical day, we would hope to visit a minimum of three locations, ending the day with a sunset shoot. Adam will select the optimum locations to visit, taking into account the weather and seasonal highlights to ensure you are photographing each location at it’s very best. While on location tuition is informal and friendly; Adam will help you develop your technique, paying particular emphasis to composition, working with light and mastering filters (a set of Lee ND Filters will be available for your use throughout the day if required).
You also will have the benefit of an optional 1 hour online Skype (or telephone) conversation with Adam, to be taken up to one month following your tuition day. This call can be used as an informal refresher to go over techniques discussed during the tuition day, or alternatively you can use this session to discuss post processing techniques or image review.
If you are travelling from further afield and wish to book overnight accommodation, we can recommend two different locations to suit your budget. The Oxenham Arms in the moorland village of South Zeal is over 800 years old, and offers a touch of luxury in a charming historical setting. For the more budget conscious, the Travelodge hotel in Whiddon Down offers excellent value in an easy to reach location, close to the main A30 road. As both of these hotels are close to our north Dartmoor base, Adam will be able to collect/drop off, so you will not need to use your car on tuition day. If you find accommodation further afield, directions will be provided to meet at Adam's home, where you will be able to leave your car securely throughout the day.
"Well what can I say about our 3 days. Awesome!! I learnt so much but at the same time had a great time. I can now take a photograph. I can use my camera the way it should be used. You have totally changed the way I look at photography, in the best way. At the same time having a great laugh. I really had a great time, and will be looking into another course next year. Once again, thank you for your help, your patience and for showing me some amazing places."
"Adam Burton is a great photographer and a great communicator. He didn't bamboozle me with jargon and unnecessary technicalities - we just got down to the nitty gritty of taking a good photograph. The day just flew by which is always a good sign in my book. The day was very informative, hugely enjoyable and I learnt a great deal. All I have to do now is remember everything we covered and put it into practice. Perhaps easier said than done!"
"Adam. I Just wanted to say a huge thank you for a fantastic day on Thursday. It has to be the best money I have ever spent on anything photographic, by a long way. Not only has my landscape photography improved, it is now on a different level, as is my technique overall."
