Join Adam for a Discovery Tour photographing the beautiful Northumberland Coast.  With the lowest population density in England, Northumberland is a quiet, unspoilt, and incredibly beautiful county with a breathtaking coastline.  The coastline here is characterised by vast stretches of empty sandy beaches backed by dunes, met occasionally with pockets of dramatic rocky outcrops.  Some of the UK's most imposing castles can be found perched on these outcrops, providing a wealth of delights for the avid seascape photographer.

We will be visiting some of Northumberland's truly iconic locations, including Bamburgh Beach, Dunstanburgh and Holy Island, while along the way we will explore some lesser known coves and beaches.

To give you the greatest chance of photographing these amazing locations in the best available light, the itinerary has been designed to include three sunrises and three sunsets.  We will kick off midday on the first day where, following a quick introduction we can head out to the coast to shoot locations for mid afternoon and then sunset.  Two full days of photography follow, with a little rest time allocated after breakfast to allow you opportunity to relax and recharge your batteries (and your camera batteries!).  On the final day we will shoot sunrise and then the tour will finish after breakfast, giving you ample daylight hours to make the long journey home.

With a maximum group number of only four participants, our chosen locations will be uncrowded ensuring everybody has access to shoot that special viewpoint.  Adam will encourage you to fully explore each location to find your own viewpoints and compositions, while helping you capture beautiful landscape photographs.

Our tours are aimed at everybody, from beginners looking for advice and encouragement through to experienced photographers wishing only to be guided to locations.  With such a small group, you can be assured of Adam’s attention, support and feedback throughout each location we visit.

Please note: This tour has been classified as easy.  Most of the locations are accessed very close to car parks, or with walks of up to 20 minutes along flat footpaths.

Accommodation

Our base for this Discovery Tour will be the Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh.  Located a few hundred yards up the road from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle, the Victoria is a charming, historic hotel in the heart of an idyllic coastal village setting.  For more information on the hotel please visit their website.

Recommendations

"I must confess as someone who is naturally quite shy, I was a little apprehensive about going out for a whole day 1-2-1 with someone I didn't know. Within minutes of meeting up with Adam, he had put me at ease and I was completely relaxed and looking forward to the day ahead. We had a full itinerary of locations near my home, which at the end of the day even when I knew them I was able to look at with a fresh and more critical eye. Having got a drone for Christmas and having only a vague understanding of how to use it, Adam quickly got me up to speed with all the flight and camera controls. We were both surprised at how capable my drone was, and as a result it was not long before I was literally flying it off a cliff across open water to take pictures looking back at the shore. I am now much more confident using my drone and am really looking forward to exploring new and old locations to use it and see things with a completely different perspective. Do not think twice about booking a workshop with Adam, you will not regret it."

John, 1-2-1 Drone Tuition Day

"I have been fortunate enough to have participated in 20 photographic events worldwide and consequently worked with 17 professional photographers who specialize in conducting workshops. My preferred professional is Adam Burton because of his keen customer focus and his teaching methodologies. I recall one occasion being in Yosemite National Park with Adam and our photographic group left our vehicle carrying cameras and tripods, walking to our photo location. I said to Adam “where’s your camera”. Adam replied, “we have 12 participants in our group, my job is to help assist you take home the best images’’. I’m not suggesting Adam should not carry his camera but there are many of the pros that think their workshop is about them taking their own photos. Not so with Adam. I have also worked with Adam on ‘one to one’ in the UK; very pleased with my images; in fact, some of these have later gone on to winning awards and prizes in Australia."

Rob, Yosemite Workshop

"Thanks very much for your guidance, care and attention over the few days last week and for your eternal optimism about the weather !!"

Len, West Cornwall Discovery Tour

"Just wanted to say a special thanks for your hard work in organising reorganising to get some workable locations in spite of some very trying conditions."
