Join me for an unforgettable photographic adventure to one of the most remote and visually stunning destinations on earth, the Faroe Islands. Nestled in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Norway, this dramatic archipelago is a playground for landscape photographers, offering towering sea cliffs, rugged coastlines, dramatic waterfalls, and ever-changing weather that creates moody, atmospheric conditions perfect for striking imagery.

Throughout this workshop, we will explore some of the islands' most iconic and hidden locations, including windswept fjords, remote mountain passes, quaint fishing villages, and the legendary Múlafossur Waterfall.  From our base in the capital Torshavn, and thanks to the Faroe's excellent network of roads and undersea tunnels we will be able to access and photograph locations in five different islands.

Due to both the time of year and the Faroe Islands location in the far north, I have decided to make a radical change on this workshop and skip sunrise.  This will mean we won't need to drag ourselves up in the middle of the night, in the hope of a sunrise before a long day ahead.  Instead, we plan to start the day with breakfast at a respectable time of around 08:30, and then head out for the day at 10am.  After visiting a couple of locations during the day, we can return to the hotel in time for an early dinner, before heading out again to shoot the evening light and sunset.  Photography in the Faroe Islands is all about mood and drama, and there will be plenty of that throughout the day.

The plan for the week is as follows:

Saturday 25th April

I'll pick you up mid afternoon from Vagar Intnernational Airport and drive you to the hotel for check in, followed by dinner.  After dinner we will head out for our first evening of photography, shooting on the north coast of Eysturoy.

Sunday 26th April - Friday 1st May

For each of the next six days we will be busy photographing many of the islands' dramatic vistas.  Each day we will be out from 10am until around 5pm, visiting locations throughout the islands of Eysturoy, Streymoy, Vagar, Bordoy and Vidoy.  After returning to the hotel for dinner, we will venture out again to photograph in the evening light, returning to the hotel around 10:30pm.  There will be two boat trips during the week, one to experience the towering Vestmanna sea cliffs which will give you a unique perspective of some of Europes highest cliffs as well as the opportunity to photograph many different sea birds.  The second boat trip will take us close to the awe inspiring Drangarnir sea arch on the island of Vagar.  As well as having the opportunity to shoot the arch from the boat, we will make a shore landing on nearby private land where we can photograph the arch close up with the benefit of our tripods.

Saturday 2nd May

After an early breakfast, we will check out and make our way to the airport in time for an early afternoon flight home.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate level of fitness.  The majority of the locations we plan to visit are easily accessible with short walks, but there will be several hikes to reach special viewpoints.  The majority of these viewpoints should take between 15 - 30 minutes to reach and will not be too strenuous.  There is one walk that will take 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach, along a mostly level, easy trail.  The view at the end will be worth the effort!

Accommodation

Our base for the duration of this trip will be the four star Hotel Foroyar.  Located above the Faroe Islands' capital Torshavn, the hotel enjoys spectacular views over the city, harbour and out to sea.  Each guest will benefit from a modern double room with sea views.  For more info on the hotel please check their website here.

"Adam, you are extremely gifted and a wonderful teacher and communicator. Thanks for leading us through those difficult weather conditions so positively."

Gillian, Faroe Islands Workshop

"I have been fortunate enough to have participated in 20 photographic events worldwide and consequently worked with 17 professional photographers who specialize in conducting workshops. My preferred professional is Adam Burton because of his keen customer focus and his teaching methodologies. I recall one occasion being in Yosemite National Park with Adam and our photographic group left our vehicle carrying cameras and tripods, walking to our photo location. I said to Adam “where’s your camera”. Adam replied, “we have 12 participants in our group, my job is to help assist you take home the best images’’. I’m not suggesting Adam should not carry his camera but there are many of the pros that think their workshop is about them taking their own photos. Not so with Adam. I have also worked with Adam on ‘one to one’ in the UK; very pleased with my images; in fact, some of these have later gone on to winning awards and prizes in Australia."

Rob, Yosemite Workshop

"In June 2022 I did a 1-2-1 tuition day with Adam on Dartmoor, a fabulous part of Devon. I had a fantastic day with Adam visiting a number of locations to get the best from such a lovely area. His professionalism, skill and location knowledge is excellent and will ensure you always get the best from the day. His knowledge of photography is fantastic and on top of that he really is a fabulous guy to spend a wonderful day with. I would highly recommend Adam either for a workshop or a 1-2-1 tuition day; he will ensure you get the best experience from the day and you will feel after looking at the images you have captured something to be proud of."
