Worbarrow Wash

Worbarrow Bay, Dorset

Ref: BB051320
Gallery: Dorset

The waves on this afternoon were quite terrific, regularly crashing high up the beach with frightening force.  I didn’t much fancy the position I had to stand in to capture this shot, but I knew there wouldn’t be any choice in the matter, I was going to get very wet.  I stood on a small lump of rock, and set up the camera, waiting for a big incoming wave.  When I saw it come crashing towards me, I started to doubt the suitability of my position.  A couple of seconds later I was bracing myself with camera and tripod held high over my head as an immense wave surged over my rock pedestal and over my legs right up to my waist.  Despite the power of the wave, luckily I stayed put, and quickly set down the tripod and recomposed the shot as the waves dragged back.  It’s always a bit scary standing in the path of this kind of wave, especially with such expensive camera gear, but sometimes you just have to do it to get the shot.
