Without question my favourite location from my Patagonia trip. After driving over many miles of barren steppe landscape, the lush green valleys of El Chalten in Los Glaciares National Park appear as a sudden and unexpected oasis. The walks from the village of El Chalten up into the mountains are absolutely breathtaking and highly addictive. With only a couple of days allocated to stay here, we decided to go for a small two hour hike to Laguna del Pato. Upon arriving at the lake and feeling inspired by the landscape surrounding us, we decided to continue onwards and upwards. Ten hours later we returned from another lake, Laguna de Los Tres high up on the mountainside, feeling tired but motivated by the stunning landscape surrounding Cerro Fitzroy. Motivated so much, that the following day we went on an eight hour hike to Laguna Torre, sadly only to find Cerro Torre completely obscurred behind low cloud.
