This week I woke up to the most fantastic frosty morning I have ever witnessed. As I headed out in the car towards Dartmoor for sunrise, I was thrilled to see the hedgerow trees glistening white with hoar frost in the darkness as my headlights illuminated them. Unfortunately, the hoar frost didn’t reach Belstone Tor in Dartmoor, so after an hour or so wandering the moor I headed back towards my village, eager to photograph the frost before it melted in the morning sunshine. The whole drive back was utterly incredible, the rolling Devon landscape was completely white with frost, looking similar to snow but so much more picturesque and magical. I stopped by these trees and rushed around in the chilly morning, barely able to contain my excitement at seeing such a wonderful sight. I can only hope we get to experience a few more hoar frosted mornings in the Southwest this winter.
