The Serpentstone
The Serpentstone
Kilve, Somerset

Gallery: Somerset
I arrived at Kilve on a particularly rainy afternoon in Spring and, standing on the wet rocks and waited for nearly an hour for the heavy rain to stop. More than once I contemplated packing up and heading home empty handed, but I’m very pleased I persisted. Eventually the rain ceased, to be replaced by a few minutes of the most incredible golden light I could ever hope to witness. While scouting in the rain I was amazed to discover this huge ammonite fossil embedded in a rock. This ancient sea creature, forgotten for 80 million years was now bathed in spectacular evening light, almost begging to be noticed. I duly obliged, organising my wide-angle composition to feature the fossil prominently, while also showing the cliffs from where it fell in the background.
