The dramatic white cliffs of Ballard Down are formed from thousands of tiny horizontal ledges of soft chalk. These fragile rocks are in a constant state of change, the headlands being eroded firstly into arches and then into solitary pillars of chalk. Soon, in geological terms this rock stack will crumble to the sea and disappear from the landscape forever.
