The Brocken Spectre
The Brocken Spectre
Dartmoor National Park, Devon
Ref: BB055998
Gallery: Dartmoor
I was extremely fortunate to witness a rare and incredible sight yesterday on Dartmoor. A Brocken Spectre is an optical phenomenon that usually occurs in mountainous regions, when the sun is low in a misty sky. The Spectre is of course my shadow, surrounded by a circular rainbow known as a Glory. For such a supernatural sight to appear above Wistman’s Wood, the most haunted woodland in England, completed the mystery of the encounter.
