Tarr Steps, Exmoor
Ref: BB032763
Gallery: Exmoor
Local legend and mythology suggests that Tarr Steps was built by the Devil as a place to sunbathe. All trespassers were forbidden passage upon penalty of death, until one day a local Parson confronted the devil on the bridge. The Parson’s colourful choice of language impressed the Devil so much that he decided that he would let people cross his bridge after all.
