The majority of woodland within the National Park consists of coniferous plantations, but this wasn’t always the case. As with most other areas of the UK, many thousands of years ago the lowland landscapes were covered with deciduous woodland. Here, a magnificent deciduous tree stands proud in a conifer plantation.
