Icebergs of Paradise
Paradise Bay, Antarctica
Ref: BB016279
Gallery: Antarctica
These icebergs were grounded in the shallow waters of Paradise Bay. Depending on their size, the smaller chunks of ice in the foreground are known as Growlers or Bergy Bits (yes, really!). Bergy Bits can be a danger to ships because they are smaller and therefore more difficult to spot than icebergs. To provide an element of scale, look closely to the right of the big icebergs and you will see a Zodiac; this inflatable boat which carries about 13 people helps to give an indication of how big the icebergs are, even though these are only tiny bergs.
