Castle in the Mist
Corfe Castle, Dorset
Ref: AB003884
Gallery: Dorset
The spectacular ruins of Corfe Castle surrounded by early morning mist are warmed by the first glows of a new sunrise. Originally dating from the 11th Century, Corfe Castle became a Royalist stronghold in the English Civil War. It was attacked on two occasions by Parliamentarian forces, eventually being destroyed in 1646 after a 2 month siege. The Castle is now preserved by the National Trust and is one of the UK’s most iconic ruins.
