The most southerly place in Dorset, Portland Bill lies at the very southern tip of the Isle of Portland. There are three lighthouses here, the classic red and white banded lighthouse being the only one still in operation. The huge horizontal and sometimes broken ledges of Portland limestone provide wonderful photographic opportunities, none more spectacular than Pulpit Rock. Being so far into the English Channel, the sea can be quite fierce here, so be careful when venturing onto the lower ledges.
