This is certainly up there with the most bizarre skies I have ever witnessed.  After a busy few weeks touring New Zealand I decided to take an evening off, and relax in our camper van on a campsite in Hanmer Springs.  Typically, the sky decided to put on the best show of the whole trip!  I quickly buckled and grabbed my camera, but I was in the middle of town and there was no time to find a location.  I had to make the best of my situation and so, hand-holding the camera I climbed onto the top of a wooden gate to give me a little elevation to shoot over the house tops.  Balancing precariously on top of the gate (well wobbling all over the place to tell you the truth) I photographed the sky with just a small strip of land, and a mountain, silhouetted in the bottom of the frame.  Afterwards I was really pleased with the results; the sky rightfully commands the full attention of the picture while the mountain, which looks a bit like a volcano provided some added interest.
